Orange + Hazelnut Latte
A few weeks ago my sister and I went to the cutest little cafe after church for brunch. I ordered artisanal ricotta toast with seasonal house-made jam and my sister ordered a homemade biscuit. Both were absolutely delicious. It's not often I indulge in a milk-based beverage such as a latte but one drink on the menu caught my eye: a latte blended with vanilla and hazelnut syrups and a fresh spritz of orange. I ordered it on a whim and was not disappointed. The combination of bright orange and toasty hazelnut was unexpected in the best way. Seriously one of the best lattes I've ever indulged in so I was inspired to create a riff on it. I hope you enjoy!
OranGe + Hazelnut Latte
2 T hazelnut syrup (recipe below)
2 oz espresso
6 oz milk, steamed
orange zest, to top
In a mug, combine the hazelnut syrup, espresso, and steamed milk. Top with a layer of foam and sprinkle with orange zest. (If you don't have an espresso machine or equipment to steam and foam milk, simply heat in a saucepan over medium heat then whiz up in a blender until frothy. Voila!)
Hazelnut Syrup
1/2 c water
1/2 c demerara sugar
1 t hazelnut extract
Combine ingredients in a saucepan and heat over medium heat until sugar has dissolved. Allow to cool then store in an airtight container in the fridge.
