Salted Brown Butter Tahini Rice Krispie Treats
These may not look like much. In fact, they may look like your ordinary krispie treat. But you’d be wrong. Rice krispie treats are already insanely delicious and hard to beat but adding in a few touches like browning the butter and adding in some savory tahini is truly a game-changer. Of course I can’t help myself so we’ve added a little flaky salt to the party which only makes them even more addictive. I have no other words except make these. You’re welcome.
Salted Brown Butter Tahini Rice Krispie Treats
makes 12 large bars
1/2 c unsalted butter (1 stick), wrapper reserved
1/3 c tahini
16 oz mini marshmallows (I like Dandie’s)
8 c puffed rice cereal
flaky salt, such as Jacobsen’s
2 T toasted sesame seeds (I used a mix of black and white)
drizzle
1/4 c white chocolate chips
2 T tahini
make the bars
Lightly butter a 9 x 13 inch baking dish and set aside. In a large pot over medium heat, melt the butter and then continue to cook until the milk solids brown and butter begins to foam, swirling pan occasionally. The butter should turn deep golden brown and smell nutty. Add in the marshmallows and stir until marshmallows have melted completely and is one smooth mixture. Add in the tahini and stir to combine. Shut off the heat and immediately add in the rice cereal and stir with a rubber spatula, until all the cereal is completely coated in the marshmallow mixture. Pour into buttered dish, patting down into an even layer, using the reserved butter wrapper butter side down to firmly press down all over the surface.
make the drizzle
In a small microwavable dish, melt the white chocolate chips in the microwave in 20 second increments until fully melted. Stir in the tahini to incorporate. Drizzle mixture over the surface of the bars. Sprinkle over sesame seeds and flaky salt. Allow to set then slice and enjoy!
