Grapefruit, Fennel, and Turmeric Juice — All Purpose Flour Child

I randomly threw this combination together in my blender when I went on my juicing spree before my vacation to Hawaii and I gotta say: it's delicious! It's fresh and tart, clean, and earthy. And soo good for you. A lot more grocery stores are carrying fresh turmeric these days and it's a great thing to add to juices or smoothies because it's anti-inflammatory properties! I wrote a little blurb about why I love it so much here. If you can't find it at your grocery store, you could certainly substitute ground turmeric as well. I've included measurements below for you. I like to drink this juice to start off the day. The grapefruit is refreshing and kinda wakes you up and it's also super tasty.

Grapefruit, Fennel, + Turmeric Juice

makes about 2 cups

2 small-medium fennel bulbs with fronds and stems, all roughly chopped
2 large grapefruits, peeled, seeded, and roughly chopped
2 inch piece of fresh turmeric, peeled and halved (or 1 t ground turmeric)
1/3 c fresh pineapple, roughly chopped
1/2 c cold water (omit if using juicer method)

Blender Method
In a blender, combine all ingredients and blend on high until pureed, about 2 minutes. Strain through a nut milk bag or cheesecloth-lined mesh strainer. Discard pulp and enjoy juice!

Juicer Method
Add grapefruit, pineapple, turmeric, and fennel to juicer, making juice according to your juicer's instructions but most juicers start with softer fruits and work up to heartier, harder fruits and vegetables. The best order for this would be: grapefruit, pineapple, turmeric, and fennel.

A word of caution regarding turmeric: IT STAINS EVERYTHING. If you're concerned, you can wear gloves when handling the turmeric root and preparing and straining the juice. I find it rinses off my hands in about a day or so, just as beets do if you've ever handled raw beets. My nut milk is now stained a lovely golden color, though, so just a head's up. :)
